The Runaway Tree

The Colorado River wanders,
a highway through the sun-parched land.
Upon the grassy hill a lone tree
protrudes like a hitchhiker’s thumb.
Will he be saved from the wrath
of human greed
forming homes in clusters?

He may be high enough from human harm-but one good rain and a stiff wind may take him over the edge.

I think that this tree is already making a statement, defying the odds of gravity and humans!

If the wind we've had here the last two days makes it east to CO, he's in trouble, I'm afraid. But I'd rather see it lost through nature's hand rather than the human need to take over our earth.
